Santa Ana — The SAUSD Board of Education this week recognized the Kevin Armstrong Memorial Sports Foundation for its contribution toward SAUSD's athletic programs and promoting student wellness. SAUSD has enjoyed a strong partnership with the Foundation for years. Through this partnership, the Foundation supports the RunStrong program as well as general wellness within the District's intramural sports programs. Irvine Public School Foundation awards Dr. Kevin L. Armstrong the Spirit of Excellence Award9/27/2014
Santa Ana — The Irvine Public School Foundation awarded Dr. Kevin L. Armstrong the Spirit of Excellence Award in Leadership at their annual Gala on September 27, 2014. We would like to thank them for this wonderful honor. In addition, they named an annual scholarship in Kevin's name in partnership with NFL Hall of Famer, Warren Moon and his company, Sports 1 Marketing. This is a beautiful tribute to Kevin and we thank all of you for helping us to keep his memory and legacy alive, especially the Board members of the Kevin Armstrong MD Memorial Sports Foundation and the coaches, volunteers, donors and sponsors who support the work that we do for the student athletes in Santa Ana. Santa Ana Unified School District has named the Carr Intermediate School gymnasium in honor of former student and late physician Dr. Kevin Armstrong. Armstrong died in 2005 at the age of 39 from a rare heart condition. He attended Diamond Elementary School and was valedictorian at Carr in 1979. After earning his medical degree and becoming established, Armstrong gave back to the community by becoming a volunteer physician at district high school football games. SANTA ANA - Several hundred Santa Ana Unified intermediate school students from across the city recently put their talents to the test in the annual all city track and field event which included various competitive games including sprinting, shot put, long jump, and other field events. Hosted by Segerstrom High School, the games were sponsored by Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD), the City of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation, and the Kevin Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation.
