![]() Santa Ana Unified School District has named the Carr Intermediate School gymnasium in honor of former student and late physician Dr. Kevin Armstrong. Armstrong died in 2005 at the age of 39 from a rare heart condition. He attended Diamond Elementary School and was valedictorian at Carr in 1979. After earning his medical degree and becoming established, Armstrong gave back to the community by becoming a volunteer physician at district high school football games. "We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Santa Ana Board of Education, under the leadership of President, Audrey Yamagata-Noji, Carr Intermediate School (Go Astros!), and Joe Dixon for the surprise gift that we received today - the dedication of the Kevin Armstrong M.D., Gymnasium.
After Kevin passed away, one of the things that my mother repeated was how much she hoped that no one would ever forget Kevin. As we know, people are remembered in many different ways and Kevin's legacy lives on through the work of the Kevin Armstrong MD Memorial Sports Foundation...and for that, we would like to thank our dedicated, hard working and passionate Board of Directors as well as the many volunteers, advisors, donors and businesses that support our work. But, never, ever did we imagine that Kevin would be immortalized in such an unimaginable way as to have the gym at his beloved Carr Intermediate School named after him. To those who attended the dedication - thank you for your support, love, encouragement and kleenex! And to those who could not attend, we love you and your presence was missed. We are honored and humbled by this tribute and it is our prayer that as the students of Carr pass by the gym and read Kevin's name, enter through its doors and read the words on the beautiful, bronze plaque, they will be inspired to work harder, reach higher and dream bigger. God Bless you all! - The Armstrong Family" Download the event Program to view photos and a recap. Read the full article online at the Orange County Register Comments are closed.
