KAMSF's RunStrong Participate, Millie Gonzalez-Flores wows the audience at the OCYSF Annual Gala1/16/2024
On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, RunStrong athlete, Millie Gonzalez-Flores, an 8th grader at Mendez Fundamental School, was invited to speak at the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation’s (OCYSF) Annual Gala in Irvine and she was phenomenal! Millie is a straight-A student taking honors classes while participating in RunStrong, Cross Country, Track & Field and Softball. Numerous guests praised her speech. In fact, one of the event honorees, Olympic Gold Medalist, Janet Evans and the Event Host, the one and only Bob Costas, gave her a “Shout Out” from the stage during their remarks! Millie was very impressive and we couldn't be prouder of her. Thank you Tom Murphy and the Board of Directors of the OCYSF for inviting us to be a part of this incredible event and for your continued support to provide new ASIC running shoes to RunStrong athletes. It really means a lot of our students...as you heard from Millie! We would like to extend a special Thank You for all the friends, sponsors, donors, golfers and contributors who have sustained KAMSF over the past 18 years with your generous donations. Because of you, our impact, and Kevin's legacy continues.
Shaun Gonzales, is a well-rounded student athlete. As a sophomore at Santa Ana High School, he participates in Track & Field and Water Polo while taking AP and Honor classes. He is also part of the mock trial as a co-captain as well as being a leader in FCA, a Fellowship for Christian Athletes. This may seem like a heavy load, but Shaun would have it no other way and he has maintained a 4.8 GPA. Shaun was introduced to RunStrong at MacArthur Intermediate School. Coach David Diaz recognized his talent, positive outlook and leadership skills immediately and Shaun was selected as one of the Captains of the RunStrong team. During this time, he honed his skills as a leader when running as well as in other areas of his life. Shaun loved to encourage his peers to stay focused, be safe and enjoy themselves. One of his favorite memories of being part of the program was witnessing quiet, shy runners mature into active, confident engaged RunStrong participants over the span of a few months. |
