![]() SANTA ANA - Several hundred Santa Ana Unified intermediate school students from across the city recently put their talents to the test in the annual all city track and field event which included various competitive games including sprinting, shot put, long jump, and other field events. Hosted by Segerstrom High School, the games were sponsored by Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD), the City of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation, and the Kevin Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation. Track & Field U.S. Olympian McClinton Neal, (1992 Barcelona Summer Games) who spoke during the opening ceremonies of the Santa Ana All-City Field and Track Meet on behalf of the Kevin Armstrong, M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation met with 7th and 8th Graders from McFadden Intermediate School. The City of Santa Ana’s Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez attended to lend her support. Additionally, members of the Armstrong Foundation were on hand to provide nutritious snacks for the athletes and t-shirts to all participants. During the March 11, 2008, Santa Ana Board of Education meeting, the organization will announce a donation of AEDs (automatic external defibrillators) to six Santa Ana High Schools. Founded in memory of Dr. Kevin L. Armstrong — a former Santa Ana student — the Kevin Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation provides health screenings, scholarships and athletic equipment to SAUSD students.
